Coast to Coast Success!
Personal
Having successfully arrived in Bridlington, and pushing one final time for charity we have successfully raised over our £500 target!
Old Article
This content may be out of date or broken, please take care.On Sunday 29th June at around 13:00, we glided into Bridlington on our array of road bikes.
Friday night was spent at the lovely Bewerley Hall Farm in Pateley Bridge, I would thoroughly recommend staying there (especially if you like pictures of cats, and Dolores Umbridge-esque decor).
Saturday
Saturday was long, but relatively flat. Bizarrely the route led straight through the centre of York during the peak of the day; needless to say it was packed with people! Following directly on from that, the route petered out into a dirt track and we had a rough time especially considering that we're on road bikes. To get to our accommodation for Saturday night, we had to take a three mile detour from the route, leading us to the Steer Inn, near Pocklington. Food, service and beds were great; but if you're a fan of showers the Steer Inn is not the place for you. We had a hard time trying to conclude exactly how the plumbing worked in that place, the shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold - only coming in intermittent spurts!?
Sunday
Starting with a full English, and another amazing day of weather for the final leg. Unbelievably we still had to do a lot of climbing, made much harder by the route passing through an airless sweltering valley. Peaking the top of this, a fresh breeze rolled over us, and the smell of the sea gushed forth. This stimulated a 'second wind', and we flew for miles on a downhill stretch all the way into Bridlington.
The entire trip went very smoothly on the whole, and we got extremely lucky with the weather. I want to call it a healthy glow but I'll have to admit I got a little sunburnt.
Charity
Our cycling was hard, but the real work came from everyone making donations. Before we started the trip we were about 25% to our target, by the end we were at 70% and through a final push this week we smashed the £500 target! So on behalf of Dan, Carl and myself, I want to say a massive thank you for raising a substantial amount of money for a life saving charity. It really shows that together, we can beat cancer.
Special Thanks
As always when we do these things, we have huge support from a team of family and friends. So a special thanks goes to Lewis Moat, and to our parents for resolving some logistical nightmares and letting us get on with the cycling challenge at hand!
